“Yunohost” as my self-hosting starting point

In early 2010 I started to experiment with self hosting, because I wanted to store my personal data independent from any of the big tech companies. I was fascinated by the available tools already out there and started with an Raspberry PI running a solution developed and maintained by one person in Canada

My next step was already Yunohost, initially on an Odroid U3. The U3 was powerful enough to host a Nextcloud installation and an XMPP chat solution based on Jabber. I equipped the Hardware with a backup battery.

DynDNS and own Domain

Early own it became clear to me, that I would like to host on my own domain but with a dynamic IP and bought a domain allowing for a dynamic IP at Profi Webspace, a smaler provider in Germany. Since then you can find me at “myliberty.eu”
